Lung decortication |
Methods : Twenty-six patients with lung removal diagnosis of Lung decortication EPC were prospectively evaluated by lung scan , blood gas analysis and spirometry before and 35 weeks ( ± 17 ) after lung decortication .
Results : Preoperative scintigraphy showed a lung lobectomy reduction in lung perfusion on the affected side to 24.5 % ( ± 12.6 % ) in 11 empyema on the right side ( 55 % predicted ) and 18% ( ± 8% ) left empyema in 15 ( 45 % predicted ) .
Postoperative measurements showed improved perfusion of 45.2 % ( ± 7.7% ) in patients with empyema on the right side and 34.1 % ( ± 8.5 % ) with affection left Lung decortication.
The preoperative vital capacity (VC ) was reduced to 62.3 % ( ± 13.8 % ) of predicted and forced expiratory volume in 1 second ( FEV1 ) 50 % ( ± 15.5 % ) of the predicted value .
After the operation lung removal, a slight improvement was achieved in 79.8 % (± 12.9%) and 69.2% for VC ( ± 12.7 %) for FEV1 . Blood gas analysis showed values decreased in most patients before operation and a significant improvement in postoperative evaluation lung lobectomy.
Conclusions : Perfusion and spirometry significantly improves CPE patients after decortication of the lung, but the function of the affected lung remains doubtful.Lung decortication There was no influence of age , gender, disease side ,lung removal bacteriology and empyema length preoperatively on lung function .
