Malignant mesothelioma is a rare cancer in which malignant or cancerous cells form in the thin layers of tissue that lines the chest, heart or the human abdomen.
When the cancer is in the chest, which affects the pleura or lining of the lungs and is called malignant pleural mesothelioma. Malignant mesothelioma is the most common type of mesothelioma. In the abdomen, peritoneal cancer or tissue that lines the abdominal cavity and covers various organs are called malignant peritoneal Malignant mesothelioma.
The least common form of mesothelioma affects the pericardium, or outer covering of the heart. The word literally means a growth of mesothelioma cancer, a layer of tissue from which the pleura, peritoneum and pericardium develop all.
