Get a Younger Looking You with Botox

By Craig Nevilt

Botox, under prescription, can be used to smooth away the frown lines between the eyebrows, and other facial wrinkles, that men and women get in middle age. Smoothing out lines is what it is most often used for. This type of cosmetic improvement is used mostly by people who feel the lines on their forehead make them look tired or even angry.

Avoid this treatment if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Botox. If there is an infection in the skin surrounding the area being injected, common sense dictates that you shouldn't go ahead. You also should inform your physician before a treatment if you have any issues that affect your breathing such as asthma.

How does it work?

The skin's wrinkles normally form right next to a muscle that is close to, and normally beneath, it.The Botox restricts nerve impulses from reaching the tissue that causes the wrinkle. The skin supported by the muscle stops being creased by constant expression contractions by this limited or no muscle movement. Lines and wrinkles stop forming when muscle contractions are inhibited. The person gets a more youthful look as a result, when frown lines and other wrinkles are reduced.

Botox injections is used for wrinkles as a non-invasive procedure that takes less than half an hour. A small amount of Botox is injected by the practitioner into the site to be treated. As it starts working, the Botox blocks the nerve signals to the muscles under the skin. The skin is smoothed, causing facial lines to diminish, because the muscle therefore relaxes.

The skin might be a bit red and sore after the Botox Injection Treatment, but this is normally minor and goes away after a few days. Usually on the same day, a patient can leave the clinic straight away and return to work. Within 3 days the treatment usually starts to work, but the full effect may take up to a week.

Post-Treatment

Try to exercise your treated muscles for one to two hours following your procedure. Squinting, frowning and raising your eyebrows should all be practiced. This helps work the Botox into your muscles. While this can help, it won't impact your results negatively if you forget or don't have the time to do it.

Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas and, for 4 hours after the treatment, do not do yoga, heavy lifting or any type of strenuous exercise. And, after the procedure, don't take Advil, vitamin D, or Tylenol.

If, after the procedure, you see some tiny bumps or marks on your face, do not be concerned. Within a few hours they will go away.

Make sure whoever is doing your Botox treatment is trained specifically in this procedure. This type of treatment is a medical procedure, and should be seen in this way.
